A victim mind-set occurs when you look for the easy way out….you blame others….you blame your environment, your parents…anybody and anything other than yourself. Victim mentality comes when you carry unresolved resentment, anger and discontent with you.
You always, always have a choice. You can take responsibility, accept accountability and learn from your mistakes and failures, OR you can blame everyone else for your lot in life.
I know the haters are going to come out for this post…..
Successful people don’t have time for excuses while people who play the victim thrive on excuses, because that’s all they know.
The only thing that feeds excuses is more time. You’re giving your excuses too much time to get bigger, and have more power over you. Stop thinking about why you’re unhappy with your life, and ACT NOW, do something about it!
Victim mindset is powerless. Focus only on what you can control not the issues, people, environment or circumstances that you have no control over.
People have difficulty letting go of the victim mindset because some part of them is still invested in it. Some part of their mind or spirit still derives reward from the excuses, whether you’re deflecting attention away from the real problem, or trying to avoid judgment, or even failure, you’re invested in your excuses and they feed your victim mentality.
One of my favorite books of all time is “The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment” By Eckhart Tolle. This is what he says about playing the victim:
“To complain is always nonacceptance of what is…it carries an unconscious negative charge. When you complain you make yourself into a victim. ….So, change the situation by taking action, leave the situation or accept it. All else is madness” (page 82).
You, only you are responsible for your emotions and your actions. And you either pollute your mind (and your environment) with your negative thoughts, your excuses and your complaints, or you add joy, passion, enthusiasm to your life.
It’s your choice. Pollution or Passion, which one will you choose?
Never forget that you control your results. You control your actions.
