Forget about setting realistic or reasonable goals. Save that for those that want mediocrity. What you need is completely insane goals to push you right out of your comfort zone.
If you’re going to push past procrastination or resistance, you’ll need some extraordinary payoff to get you there. If you’re going to maintain the energy, stamina and determination to get to the top, the rewards better be phenomenal. So, reach UP. Demand more of yourself.
Start with small goals and sadly, you might just stay small.
3 months ago this blog didn’t exist. Now I’ve written 180 posts!!!!! I finished a book in 3 months, started a social club on campus twice a month, & published 33 YouTube videos (OK, I know, I need to work on those videos…..I will, promise).
I gave myself the goal of writing 5 blogs a day and posting 1 video on YouTube. Sure, I didn’t always hit my targets, but I did a hell of a lot better than I would have if I had lower goals.
I pushed myself so damn hard, (and I still have my regular research gig and teaching and raising a toddler…..) —because my goals are so damn ambitious.
You should have goals for all the areas of your life:
Write down your goals, read them aloud, review them daily & evaluate yourself. The goals you set help you structure your daily to-do list in order to achieve those very goals.
What are your goals?
How far have you stretched yourself?
How many risks have you taken with your career, to take you to the NEXT level?
Don’t retreat. Don’t complain. Just start taking action TODAY on your goals. TODAY.
